09/10/2007 - Joliet, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dario Franchitti made his fuel last one corner further than Scott Dixon and the difference won the No.27 Andretti Green Racing driver the race and the 2007 IndyCar Series title. It was Franchitti's first IndyCar championship.
Franchitti captured Sunday's Peak Antifreeze Indy 300 at the Chicagoland Speedway officially crossing the finish line 1.8439 seconds ahead of Dixon, the only other car on the lead lap. The victory was Franchitti's fourth of the season and seventh of his IndyCar career.
"Some great strategy from my boy," said Franchitti. "The whole Andretti Green team, they are the best in the world."
Just three drivers took the green flag with a chance to win the drivers championship. Pole winner Franchitti, 2003 IndyCar Series champion Dixon and Andretti Green Racing driver Tony Kanaan. Kanaan was a long shot, being behind by 39 points, but Dixon was just three points behind Franchitti at the start of the race.
Early on Sam Hornish Jr., who qualified second, went to the lead with his Penske teammate Helio Castroneves just behind. Before lap 20, Kanaan suffered a tire puncture, which put him one lap down and out of the championship picture. Which left two - Franchitti and Dixon.
Dixon was challenging Franchitti, who was having understeer problems and got around him for fourth place as the field passed the 25-lap mark. The bad day for AGR got worse as Marco Andretti spun on lap 34 and slammed the wall - his day was over with an apparent suspension failure. He was taken to the local hospital for examination.
Kanaan stayed out and returned to the lead lap, though he was all the way back in 19th place.
The race went back to green on lap 44 with the two Penske drivers still showing the way. Dixon was third and Franchitti sixth. The top six drivers, which consisted of two drivers each from Penske, Ganassi and AGR began to pull away from the rest of the field as they passed the 70-lap mark.
Kanaan didn't get the second caution flag he needed to stay on the lead lap and when he pitted for fuel he went down a lap for the second time.
Danica Patrick, one of the top-six, began to lose touch with the leaders, falling two seconds back, after 85 laps and now Franchitti had no teammates to help him.
Green flag pit stops began and Dixon's was a 7.1-second stop with no problems. Franchitti didn't come in until two laps later and his stop of 7.7 seconds was also clean.
At the halfway point, it was still all Penske with Castroneves leading Hornish Jr. Dixon was third and Franchitti fifth. If it stayed that way to the checkered flag, Dixon would edge Franchitti by two points.
Eighty laps to go and the top-five drivers were all within one second of each other. Hornish Jr. exchanged positions with Castroneves, but that was the only change after the mid-point.
Another round of green flag pit stops and in the middle of Vitor Meira spun into the outside wall in turn four to bring out the second caution flag. All the cars had pitted except for Franchitti. He pitted on lap 140 and returned to the track in second place, behind Dixon. Also on lap 140 Kanaan was officially eliminated because he could not lead the most laps and the lowest Dixon or Franchitti could finish was 17th.
After the SAFER barrier was repaired, the race went back to green on lap 152 with Dixon and Franchitti sitting one-two and Patrick in third place.
With all the caution-flag laps was it possible for Franchitti, the last to pit for fuel, to reach lap 200 without stopping again?
On lap 155 Sam Hornish. Jr. slid past Patrick and a backmarker into third place and began to challenge Franchitti for second place. Hornish took the bottom side and got around Franchitti for second place. Meanwhile Franchitti began to fade, falling behind Patrick to fourth.
Hornish Jr. continued his charge on the inside and got underneath Dixon for the lead on lap 160. But Dixon didn't have to win the race to win the championship, only beat Franchitti by three points (Dixon would win a tiebreaker by virtue of four wins to Franchitti's three).
The top-eight cars were all within one second so the race and the championship was still up for grabs.
Twenty laps to go and just five cars were within one second of Hornish Jr. with Dixon still second and Franchitti in fifth. Franchitti got around Castroneves on lap 184 and Hornish Jr. made the turn down pit lane for fuel.
It left Dixon with the lead and Franchitti in third place. But could Dixon make it all the way?
Then teamwork started to play in the championship as Dan Wheldon, who was second, slid around Dixon to try and help him make better fuel mileage. But that didn't last long because on lap 193 Wheldon suddenly slowed, he was out of fuel.
There were six laps left when Patrick spun on pit lane bringing out the caution flag. It would mean the race would come down the final restart and last couple of laps.
Two laps to go and the green flag dropped. Franchitti immediately went to the outside and he and Dixon were side-by-side. But Dixon fought him off as they saw the white flag.
Franchitti had one last shot and as they went into turn four Franchitti went to the outside again. This time he flew around Dixon who suddenly slowed, he was out of fuel.
"I was drafting him, trying to get the slingshot and just as I pulled out I saw him slow down," said Franchitti. "I almost hit the back of him. We shot up the track and that was it."
"It wasn't our day," said Dixon. "Our car was clearly the quicker car all day, but the No.27 car was getting better fuel mileage. It's a shame it had to come down to a fuel mileage race."
Franchitti still had enough fuel to get to the checkered flag and took the win and the championship.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''

American Idol Betting Season 6 Strategies
It's that time of year folks. Betting on American Idol Season 9. And we have plenty of American Idol Season 6 strategies appearing below. With the Top 24 finalists revealed, online gambling sites will be offering betting odds on each of them, including MySportsbook.com.
No other “event” has been growing as fast as wagering on American Idol. It has turned into a huge betting event with reasonably high limits and all sorts of profit-making potential for sharp bettors. Last year, MySportsbook.com experienced unprecedented traffic as a result of the American Idol betting craze.
Every week there will be odds to win American Idol, various elimination props and contestant versus contestant match-ups at the MySportsbook.com website.
Whether a fan of America’s top-rated show or watching only because of a wife or girlfriend, here are some of basic strategies to use when betting American Idol.
Odds to Win
There are a few things to consider when looking for the right win bet. First off, remember that this bet is for the long haul. Many people make the mistake of picking the performer who sang the best the previous week. This strategy leads to an underlay situation – betting a price, which is less than what it should be.
All Idol contestants struggle at some point in the competition, so you should always look for value. In last year’s competition alone, two performers who had some of the best performances early in the series were subsequently bet down to low prices - Lisa Tucker and Ace Young. After just a few weeks, Tucker had already been eliminated, while Young quickly became a huge long shot to win America’s largest talent search.
A better strategy is to look for performers who don’t necessarily get the praise from the judges, but show flashes of the talent necessary to go the distance.
Another important thing to remember when betting any contestant to win is the demographic breakdown of the voters, the viewing public and potential future CD purchasers. Unlike sporting events, American Idol is not decided on the field of play – it’s decided by the American public under the guiding influence of the shows producers.
Understand that the great state of Alabama has a mighty edge when it comes to American Idol.
Therefore, to be successful betting on American Idol, put any personal opinions or prejudices aside and think like the majority of the voting public. Remember that the typical voter is young, female and quite often, Southern.
If a contestant cannot appeal to this demographic, no matter how much talent he or she possesses, they’ll struggle for votes. Looks, demeanor and charisma are extremely important. And it’s no coincidence that every Idol winner so far has hailed from a Southern state.
Elimination Props
Every week MySportsbook.com anticipates offering a prop on who’ll be eliminated from the show each Wednesday night. A suggestion to handicap this is to gauge an overall feel for who’s the least popular contestant left in the competition. Generally the least popular performers have recently appeared in the bottom three and will have been the target of repeated criticism from the judges.
Last year, resources included dialidol.com and votefortheworst.com. Dialidol.com measures the volume of each contestant’s voting line. While by no means a perfect science, it does give a good indication of who is generating votes and who isn’t. Meanwhile, votefortheworst.com is a site that attempts to build support for the worst competitor to keep them in the competition for ‘entertainment’ value. The site has a proven track record of keeping performers around who most feel should have been voted off a long time ago.
Contestant vs. Contestant Match-ups
The best strategy for doing well on match-ups is to assess how close either of the contestants is to being eliminated. If neither is expected to be voted off of the show in the coming weeks, the value is almost always on the underdog. If both are expecting an imminent exit in the near future, the favorite in the match-up might offer value.
Watch for American Idol betting odds on each of the contestants shortly and good luck with these American Idol betting strategies.
